Sergey Lazarevich Chinenov (b. 1952) is a Russian graphic artist and book illustrator.
He was born in Petrozavodsk and graduated from the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), one of the leading art schools in Russia.
Chinenov has illustrated numerous children’s books, often working in collaboration with his wife, illustrator Valentina Chinenova. Among the authors he has illustrated are Mikhail Prishvin, Konstantin Ushinsky, Vladimir Dal, and Pyotr Yershov.
He belongs to the generation of late Soviet book illustrators trained in the strong academic tradition of the Repin Institute, with a focus on drawing, composition, and narrative clarity in children’s book graphics.
