Charles Perrault’s Fairy Tale Sleeping Beauty
The main thing is the idea of a fairy tale in general and the child’s memory of what a real fairy-tale prince should be like, what a real fairy-tale princess should be like. I am convinced that children’s illustrations should not be stylized to match the style of the era that gave birth to a certain fairy tale or story. For example, the author of “Cinderella” Charles Perrault lived in the 17th century, and therefore all his characters must be depicted in costumes of that century. No! In no case! A child has his own ideas about real princesses and real castles, and they may differ from historical realities. And we tried to depict exactly this childish idea.Eric Bulatov
