“The Wizard of the Emerald City” is a fairy tale story by Alexander Melentyevich Volkov, written in 1939 based on the fairy tale by the American writer Lyman Frank Baum “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” with some changes. The illustrator of the original edition of the book was Nikolai Radlov.

Since the first publication, the story has been reissued many times with various kinds of author’s edits, among which the most revised version was the 1959 edition. This edition first featured illustrations by artist Leonid Vladimirsky. The story became so popular that Volkov, at numerous reader requests, released five more of his own sequels, which were also illustrated by Vladimirsky.

In the absence of a special, common name for the entire series, this is also the name of the cycle consisting of the sequels of this fairy tale, written by Volkov himself with minor borrowings.
