Gennady Pavlishin

Gennady Pavlishin is a well-known artist from Khabarovsk. Since his student days, he has been deeply interested in the distinctive culture of indigenous peoples. His first illustrated book was the Nanai fairy tale “Mergen and His Friends”, and soon after he created a series of illustrations for D. Nagishkin’s collection of fairy tales “Amur Tales”, which brought him worldwide fame. In almost all of his books one can find reflections of the history, ethnography, and nature of the Far East – the vivid world of this region comes to life in “Taiga Springs”, “Fiery Leaves”, “Silver Cup”, and other stories illustrated by Pavlishin. In his hometown Khabarovsk, in the regional conference hall, he also created a huge mosaic panel of more than 12 square meters – a poem in stone about the Amur region.

Pavlishin was awarded the title of People’s Artist of the RSFSR and became a laureate of many international competitions, including the N.K. Krupskaya State Prize. He also received the international “Golden Apple” prize in Bratislava and the gold medal at the Leipzig competition.
