Anthony Browne (born 1946) is a British writer and illustrator of children’s books.
Anthony Browne was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire. His parents ran a small pub, where Anthony and his older brother Michael actually grew up.
Anthony became interested in drawing at an early age. In 1967, he graduated from Leeds College of Graphic Arts. After three years of working at the Manchester North Infirmary, drawing on a special theme, he then switched to greeting cards and only five years later, in 1976, he illustrated his first book, Through the Magic Mirror. Then they choose A Walk in the Park and Bear Hunt.
Success came to him after the publication of Gorilla in 1983, which he created based on his greeting cards. The book brought him his first Kate Greenaway Medal (in total, he was awarded this prestigious award twice).
Anthony Edward Tudor Browne illustrated more than fifty books of his own authorship. In 2000 she was awarded the Andersen Prize.
