Lucia Biancalana is an Italian illustrator, author, and designer, born in 1993 in Perugia and now based in Brussels. She studied Industrial Design at La Sapienza University in Rome and later obtained a degree in Illustration at ISIA Urbino.
Biancalana is the author of several books, including “Novantanove volte un volto” (Pièdimosca, 2022), “L’inventore di idee” (Edizioni Clichy, 2024), “Come fregare un lupo” (Franco Cosimo Panini, 2025), and “Cicero. Guida illustrata alle figure retoriche” (Pièdimosca edizioni, 2019), which was recognized by “Cosmopolitan Italia” as the work of a young future leader (under 28).
Besides creating books, Lucia works in branding, advertising, publishing projects, and murals. Among her most notable works are “Space Jam” (for the London Mural Fest) and “Day and Night” (for the city of Liège).
Biancalana’s style is easily recognizable for its soft shapes, poetic atmosphere, and subtle irony. Her work often explores themes of identity, empathy, and diversity. She mainly uses pencils and acrylics, with subsequent digital processing.
