Charles Keeping

Charles William James Keeping (1924-1988) was a British illustrator and author of children’s books.

He was born and spent his childhood in London; during World War II he served in the Royal Navy. After the war, he studied illustration and lithography at Regent Street Polytechnic. In the early 1950s, he became interested in caricature, then book illustration. He worked mainly with historical and mythological themes. He wrote and illustrated more than twenty books. He also designed books for adults, including the complete works of Charles Dickens.
