Raquel Catalina is a Spanish illustrator living in Valencia. She studied Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid and later completed postgraduate studies in illustration at ESAT in Valencia.
Her illustrations often balance warmth, humor, and detail, with a strong focus on everyday life and human gestures. She spends much of her process reading, sketching, and developing characters before starting on the final artwork, which gives her books a thoughtful and intimate feel.
Raquel’s work has been published internationally, and in 2021 her book Madani’s Best Game was selected by the New York Public Library as one of the best Spanish-language children’s books of the year. She has also taken part in illustration exhibitions in Spain, Portugal, and Mexico.
She continues to create picture books that invite readers to slow down, look closely, and enjoy the small wonders of daily life.
