Mikhail Solomonovich Maiofis (born 1939) is a Russian artist and illustrator, known for his work in graphic arts, painting, and etching. He was born in Leningrad and graduated in 1963 from the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. Maiofis began illustrating books in the early 1960s and went on to create designs for more than a hundred publications, including works by Pushkin, Lermontov, Gogol, Krylov, the Brothers Grimm, Charles Perrault, and Evgeny Schwartz.
Maiofis has participated in numerous national and international art exhibitions. His works are held in major collections, including the Russian Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery, as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad. His style is characterized by a mastery of line, composition, and tonal variation, particularly in black-and-white and colored graphics.
Today, Maiofis lives and works in Los Angeles, continuing his artistic practice and contributing to the field of book illustration with his distinctive visual approach.
