Binette Schroeder

Binette Schroeder (1939–2022) was a German artist, graphic designer, and illustrator of children’s books. She studied graphic arts at a private school in Munich and continued her training at the Basel School of Design.

Her first picture book, Lupinchen, was published in 1969 and began a long career in which she combined clean, expressive drawing with careful attention to color and page design. Schroeder worked across media, producing illustrations, prints, and book designs that became widely respected in Europe.

Over the years she built a distinctive visual voice that is both economical and richly textured, and her books won attention for their visual clarity and imaginative detail. She remained active in illustration for decades and left a recognized body of work in the field of children’s literature.
