Hans Christian Andersen Award

The Hans Christian Andersen Award (Hans Christian Andersen Author Award) is a literary prize presented to the most outstanding writers and illustrators of children’s literature. It was established in 1956 by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), under the auspices of UNESCO, and is awarded biennially on April 2. This date — the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen — was proclaimed by UNESCO in 1967 as the International Children’s Book Day.
