Brian Pinkney (b. August 28, 1961) is an American illustrator of children’s books.

He was born in Boston into a creative family — his father, Jerry Pinkney, was a celebrated illustrator, and his mother, Gloria Jean, was an author, milliner, and silversmith. Both parents kept studios at home, and Brian grew up surrounded by art materials and encouragement to create.

Pinkney lives in Brooklyn with his wife, author Andrea Davis Pinkney. The two often collaborate on books, and together have produced more than seventy titles for children.

Awards and recognition: Pinkney has received two Caldecott Honors, four Coretta Scott King Honors, the Coretta Scott King Award, and the Boston Globe–Horn Book Award.
