Vladimir Kanevsky (1939–2023) was a beloved Russian illustrator and painter, known for his work in children’s literature and magazines. He illustrated over a hundred books, including The Adventures of Cipollino by Gianni Rodari, as well as works by Marshak, Chukovsky, Mikhalkov, Yuri Kushak, Andersen, Tove Jansson, and Selma Lagerlöf. Kanevsky also contributed to magazines such as Murzilka, Pioner, and Yuny Naturalist.
His illustrations are full of humor, color, and energy, capturing the spirit of the stories with simplicity and charm. Beyond books, he created watercolors and paintings, often in his studio in Moscow with its high windows and shelves full of works by him and his father, Aminadav Kanevsky, the illustrator of The Golden Key.
