Jimmy Liao (born 15 November 1958) is a Taiwanese illustrator and author of books for children and adults. He graduated from the Chinese Culture University with a degree in design and spent twelve years working in advertising, including as art director at Ogilvy & Mather, before turning to freelance illustration for magazines and newspapers.
In 1995, he was diagnosed with leukemia. During his recovery, he began focusing seriously on illustration and writing, eventually dedicating himself fully to his art.
In 1998, his first picture books, Secrets in the Woods and A Fish That Smiled at Me, were published in Taiwan and received several awards. Over his career, he has illustrated more than 50 books. Many of his stories have been translated into multiple languages, adapted into films and animations, and continue to reach readers around the world.
