G. A. V. Traugot is the collective signature under which the book illustrations of three artists were published: Georgy Traugot and his sons Alexander and Valery.
Georgy (1903–1961), Alexander (born 1931), and Valery (1936–2009) Traugot began working in children’s book illustration in 1956. The first books were illustrated jointly by all three — the father and his two sons. The first book published with illustrations by the three artists was “686 Funny Transformations.” The drawings were signed with three initials: G. A. V. — Georgy, Alexander, Valery. After the death of G. N. Traugot in 1961, his sons kept his name in the collective signature.
They illustrated around 200 books, including “Mother Goose Tales,” “Fairy Tales” by Charles Perrault, “Fairy Tales and Stories” by Hans Christian Andersen, “Cuban Tales,” “Tales of Cambodia,” “The Iliad” and “The Odyssey” by Homer, “The Art of Love” by Ovid, “The Golden Ass” by Apuleius, and many others. Andersen’s fairy tales in their design were reprinted 17 times.
