Dirk Zimmer (1943-2008) was a German artist, author and illustrator of children’s books.
Dirk Zimmer was born in Lower Saxony, Germany, and grew up in Hamburg, where he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1968. Under the pseudonym Deasy, he had a short career as an avant-garde artist, then turned to filmmaking, but left it in the late 1970s.
In 1977, he moved to New York, where he soon began illustrating children’s books. From 1978 to 2004, Zimmer published more than two and a half dozen children’s books.
In September 2008, he died in a car accident.
